Tony Alva, who still skates today. He was also the first skater to ever get air in a pool, creating a whole new world of tricks that were eventually done on half pipes and other ramps. He is Professional Skateboarding's first World Champion in history. He won this title in 1977. He was born in Santa Monica,California and comes from a Mexican-American family. Alva skated in the traditional style of the era which was still based around tricks formulated in the 1960s. Alva and the other Z-Boys were among the first to bring skating empty pools into the mainstream. He was also one of the first professionals to have his own brand, Alva, which is still seen today.
Rodney Mullen is a great skater, he has invented a lot of ticks that expanded street skateboarding and brought it to a whole new level. He is credited with inventing many tricks, including the kickflip, the Heelflip, the tre flip (also known as the 360 kickflip), and the Impossible. Some people might say that he is called the "songbird of skateboarding."
