Banned

Skateboarding is a fun and amazing sport, but its considered unsafe and threat to property. Skateboarding has been banned from a lot of public places like near a library, in parks, and almost anywhere. In today's world the best places to skate are stair sets and gaps but a lot of those places are filled with security that stop skateboarders because its considered an unsafe and destructive. Since the beginning there have been places that prohibit skateboarding, there still is, and there will still be.

The Big Guys - Alva / Mullen

Tony Alva, who still skates today. He was also the first skater to ever get air in a pool, creating a whole new world of tricks that were eventually done on half pipes and other ramps. He is Professional Skateboarding's first World Champion in history. He won this title in 1977. He was born in Santa Monica,California and comes from a Mexican-American family. Alva skated in the traditional style of the era which was still based around tricks formulated in the 1960s. Alva and the other Z-Boys were among the first to bring skating empty pools into the mainstream. He was also one of the first professionals to have his own brand, Alva, which is still seen today.
Rodney Mullen is a great skater, he has invented a lot of ticks that expanded street skateboarding and brought it to a whole new level. He is credited with inventing many tricks, including the kickflip, the Heelflip, the tre flip (also known as the 360 kickflip), and the Impossible. Some people might say that he is called the "songbird of skateboarding."

Rain = No film.

Besides my powerpoint and my wikispace page I wanted to film a skate video in order to show how skateboarding has evolved and how it is in today's world but with all of this summer rain I was unable to accomplish that so I put together a music slide showing how it has evolved. I also had an interview with some one but that didn't go well because they audio ended up messed up. Even tough I had some downs with the project I'm still content with the outcome.

The Millenium - MONEY! FAME! SKATEING!

A pro skater in today's world makes from $1000 to $1,000. That's amazing due to the fact that skateboarding was a sport that grew out of boredom. Skateboarding has gotten a lot of fame from the first time it was introduced and it still grows popular in today's world. Today a lot of people skateboard not for a pastime but as a competitive sport, people want to grow professional and be recognized.

The 90's - X Games, Street, Pros are born.

In the 90's skateboarding was introduced to the X Games. Skateboarding had gotten really popular by now. The sport was being introduced to more people thus more professional skateboarders rose, such as Rodney Mullen, Tony Hawk, and Mike Valley. In the late 90's skateboarding was also introduced in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater game and since now it was being adversised in games, tv, and VSH so it grew even more popular.

The 80's - Plywood Ramps, Vert/Street, Tony Hawk

The 80's was a great era for skateboarding. The sport was popular and a lot of new skateboarders were rising. Empty pools were very popular and ramps were not easy to find, so people started making plywood ramps in their own back yard. The plywood ramps was a popular thing, almost everyone who skated had one. The 80's were also a time were street and vert skateboarding split up. The vert skaters were more into skating ramps, getting air, and hitting the half pipe. Street skaters were more freestylers and fllip trickers.

The 70's - The innovation of flip tricks, Dogtown, Zephyr Team, another 10 year cycle

The 70's is were skateboarding started to become more technical. Larry Stevenson invented the kicktail, and the first generation of skateboarders laid down the foundation of tricks and style. Even tough the kicktail was invented and people could do flipticks now the tricks and skateboarding was limited due to the lack of gear. That's when the urethane wheel was invented, revolutionizing the sport. The new wheels provided much better traction and speed and, combined with new skateboard specific trucks, allowed skaters to push the difficulty of maneuvers to new levels. Tricks at this time consisted of surfing maneuvers done on flat ground or on banks. Now, with the tail and wheels, surfers and skateboarders could fulfill the experience of riding a wave. To make it better they found empty pools and pipes (no not the smokeing ones but more like this: Well, actually this is not a pipe, but you get the image) and now with all of these basics down skateboarding was free to experiment with and new things were born.
The 70's was a great time for skateboarding during the late 70's the sport skyrocketed. During the last 70's the skateboarding basics were done, we had trucks, wheels, kicktail, and everything to make it feel like they wanted to, so people started creating new things for a skateboard. This is when the first professional (pro) skateboarders came, the Zephyr team was born, The Z boys. The Z Boys
